What’s cooking, Shriya?
Shriya Saran seems to be making headlines these days and for all the right reasons.
First, her magnum-opus, Kanthaswamy with Vikram is all set to hit the screens
on August 15.
And now, if all goes well, she will be walking the red carpet at the 34th Toronto
International Film Festival (TIFF) for her film with Deepa Mehta, Cooking With
Stella!
“I’m very excited,” she giggles, “When a movie is selected
for various film festivals, the expectations increase. People get inquisitive
about the film and want to catch it on the big screen. Especially, if it’s
an international film festival, the Indian audience gets curious and the film
gets a huge response in the Indian market. I’m glad that Cooking With
Stella! was selected for the TIFF with many other interesting and remarkable
films from across the country.”
So, what has she decided to wear on the big day? “We haven’t even
decided when we will be leaving for the festival. Though TIFF begins on September
10, our film will be screened only on September 16. So, I have a lot of time
on hand. But, I want to wear an Indian costume for the festival. After all,
I’m a desi girl,” she says.
Till now, two more Indian films, Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s your
Rashee? and Aditya Chopra’s Dil Bole Hadippa, have been selected for the
TIFF, and if sources are to be believed, Rani Mukherji will also be walking
the red carpet for Dil Bole Hadippa. “I have grown up seeing Rani’s
films. It’s going to be fun. But, more than that, I’m happy I will
be walking the red carpet because my film has been selected for the festival,”
she states.
So, what’s Cooking With Stella all about? “I can’t reveal
anything about the movie, or my character, but it was a learning experience
working with Deepa Mehta. She’s par excellence. I even attended workshops
for the film and sport an au naturelle look for the film. Though the film is
set in Delhi, everyone will be able to relate to it. Unlike other Deepa Mehta
films, Cooking With Stella! will be a light-hearted film — a story about
everyone and everything,” she winds up.
